February, 2020

American author Shirley Jackson referred to the month of February as “...when the days of winter seem endless and no amount of wistful recollecting can bring back any air of summer." Well...no offense to Shirley Jackson, but here at St. Bernard High School, we think wistful recollecting is the perfect way to spend these winter months as we patiently wait to reconnect with old classmates at this summer's third annual Alumni Fest. Until then, we are perfectly content to sit back, flip through old yearbooks, and tune in to the Viking Athletics Instagram to read up on our favorite team. Do you have a favorite memory of your time at SBHS? We'd love to hear it! Contact us at alumni@stbernardhs.org.

Hail, all Hail!

Alumnus Gives Back

Thank you to LAWA, Arup, alumnus Ken Billups ’98 and his company, Clark Construction, for working with several members of our senior class last Friday for a Community Service Day on our campus cleaning the courtyard. The hope is this becomes phase one of a much larger opportunity to make capital improvements in conjunction with Clark Construction.

Community Support

Thanks to a donation from the Drollinger Foundation, we will be able to purchase a new cart of chromebooks for our students to use in the classroom, new chromebooks for our teachers, and two brand new AED defibrillators. Aerojet Rocketdyne also made a donation to the SBHS Robotics Program. We are grateful for the support and excited for the opportunity to further grow these partnerships.

Career Day

St. Bernard High School’s third annual Career Day is on March 31. We are still planning which careers will be represented this year, but if you would like to be considered as a potential speaker, please email alumni@stbernardhs.org with your name and information about your career.

Director of Alumni

In the midst of this excitement, we say farewell to our Director of Alumni and Performing Arts, Ashley Napper, who has made the tough decision to pursue an opportunity working in higher education. We wish Ms. Napper all the best in her new career.

Viking Fund

Thank you to the 54 alumni who donated to help further our action plan. Thanks to your generosity, we have already begun work on a number of our action items. Alumni Board

The Alumni Association is a vital link between you—the alumni—and the school. It provides a channel in which the school and its family of graduates can communicate and serve one another.  To strengthen and further develop this relationship, we need your input, your expertise, and your vision. We are currently seeking alumni leaders to help serve on the Alumni Board. If you are interested in learning more about being on the Alumni Board, please email alumni@stbernardhs.org.

Thank You!

Alumni are vital to the future success of our school. We look forward to your support, advocacy of St. Bernard, and continued belief in the Viking Family. Thank you, loyal sons and daughters!
